Logan's Law Update: SF170 , the Petition for “Logan's Law” was gutted in Senate Judiciary Committee due to influence from the lobbyist for southern Iowa puppy-mills (“Federation of Animal Owners”) of all things. Can it be that some Legislators don't grasp the difference between constituents concerned for animal welfare, and constituents with deep pockets lined with riches from selling puppies by the hundreds?! SF170 was replaced with SF406 which, tho it merely removed the word “worrying” from the same law, is more than we got last year! SF406 unanimously passed the Senate and the House, and went into effect July 1 st , 2007.
If you talk with your Legislators about this issue, please thank them for passing SF406 but also express your deep disappointment that SF170 was not passed intact , since THAT is what 2,549 Iowans signed the Petition calling for!
Go here to lookup your Senator and Representative.
